I use straight-forward, wooden 5B sticks made by the Swedish company Wincent. This small company has managed to accumulate a good list of endorsees over the past years including Brian Downey (Thin Lizzy), Daniel Erlandsson (Arch Enemy), Stefan Schwarzmann (Accept) and the King Of Metal Drums, Mikkey Dee (Motörhead).
There is good reason for this. Not only are they a great company to deal with, but the sticks are incredibly durable and well made. This has a lot to do with the way they are manufactured. While many sticks are shaped from the original straight wooden dowl using a blade that virtually ‘scrapes’ the wood away to shape the stick, Wincent use a grinding stone to acheive this. This essentially means that the microscopic cracks that are formed when a stick is scraped by blade are avoided and thus the sticks remains more durable.
I can’t recommend these sticks highly enough – they really are the nuts!
